We had a few more days in Vietnam and had heard good things about this seaside town. It was around 4 hours from Da Lat and we arrived around mid day which was a nice change. We decided to stay at a backpackers resort but in a private room.
Luckily, we were further away from the bar and pool so the hotel was nice and quiet! We spent the afternoon eating, swimming and relaxing by the pool. We decided to head out to the town to wonder around before stopping at a sushi restaurant for dinner. Of course, I had already spotted that the hotel sold crepes with butter and sugar so I opted for a light dinner and crepes for dessert. We had a chilled evening and saw a couple that we’d briefly met in Chiang Mai. We arranged to meet with them again when we got to our next stop in Vietnam.
The following day, we had booked a sunrise tour. When you book a tour like this you expect to see the sunrise at the location stated when booking. Unfortunately, the tour was a bit of chaos. Nobody knew who was meant to go where and we were waiting for a bus that never appeared.. we wasted so much time due to the lack of organisation that we missed the sunrise. This was so frustrating and the driver was clearly trying to make up for lost time by driving like a lunatic up to the sand dunes! After we arrived at the sand dunes, we were asked to pay an additional 400k (£13) for quad bikes to take us to the top to see the sunrise. As the sun was already up, I was reluctant to do this and was going to walk. The men said the walk would take too long as it was 3km distance. We paid the money and the journey lasted a minute at most, not quite as far as he had said! It was a nice place but we were so disappointed to have missed the beautiful sunrise (especially after getting up at 3.30 am).
After these sand dunes, we headed to the red dunes which were also beautiful!
The next stop on the tour was a fishing village; it was a quick stop. We were able to see the locals fishing in the basket boats which was nice.
The next stop was a place I had heard was a tourist trap. I was a little wary but it ended up being one of my favourite parts. There was a stream running through red rocky cliffs which was beautiful. I did; however, see a Vietnamese man spit into the stream which was a bit gross!
After the trip and a moan to the hotel about the tour (we were given a full refund), we had some lunch and caught the bus to Ho Chi Minh.
